Hello Mel:

What Fred said. I'm upgraded to it and OK so far.

So no news is good news...

No difference except...

You want to block execution of...
C:\Program Files\Avira\AntiVir Desktop\avnotify.exe

RE: http://www.elitekiller.com/files/disable_antivir_nag.htm

{ needs to be updated }

Finally I found why this article should be updated.

However I blocked avnotify for Avira Antivir 8,
and that still works for Avira Antivr 9.
(now I wonder why.)

Been there & did that earlier. Thanks Dave.

The only problem I have with it is that sometimes when I boot up, Avira
Anti-Vir starts disabled. It could possibly be that I might have put it in
that state before shutting down, but I don't believe so.

PS: Other than that, I like it better on my Win2000pro system

I get same thing. It appears to disable when it checks for updates and
disables while an update is being installed. I don't think it creates a
problem, just don't initiate any file download during this brief period.

Mine starts up with the Guard disabled. I even used the Help Section (yes, I
really did look it up) and checked it out and everything is set according to
their instructions.
It still boots up as disabled. Small bug with my Win2000Pro system, but I
can live with it as long as I remember to enable it each time I cold boot.
Next time I won't use CCleaner just before I shut down and I'll see what
happens.

Did you check in services "Avira Antivir Guard"?
This service should start "Automatic".

Sure did. All is set as suggested. I really did read the Help files. :)

On Win2000 it is in the Control Panel under Admistrative Tools, Services,
Avira AntiVir Guard.
If anyone has another suggestion, I would appreciate it.
Thanks,
Buffalo

Just adding to the above. When Avira comes up as Disabled when I do a cold
boot, the "AntiVir Guard enable" choice, when rt clking on the tray icon, is
greyed-out and I have to open AntiVir by double clicking on the icon and
then selecting the 'activate' choice when the AntiVir screen comes up.

PS:In both cases, the Avira splash screen comes up during boot-ups.
