Avira getting flakier and flakier

I see now that Avira is requring downloading a new program
to keep your AV Home version running with new updates.

Very confusing instructions stating that the "fusebundle"
that allows you to update definition files can only be used
with 2012 version of Avira under windows. Then goes on to
say you must download "the OLD version of fusebundle" for
versions of Avira for 2010. Trouble is there is no download
link for any old version. Download of the latest 2012 free
Avira stalls and dies.

TIME TO SWITCH TO AVAST, getting tired of Avira poor
support. Avira used to be good about 2 years ago, did they
get new management or coders? Pretty sucky now.

???
My Avira Free Antivirus 12.0.0.898 updates every two hours
without any "new program".

What are you talking about?

versions of Avira for 2010. Trouble is there is no download

What version would you want?

Maybe you better check things, before you start moaning?

Oh my. I think your Avira was replaced by a trojan ...
Do a boot from a Kaspersky rescue disk and scan the drive.

I use the Fusebundle to update the Avira command line scanner that is
a part of my Multi-AV Scanning Tool.

It is an offline update so it begs the question of why you are not
auto-updating AntiVir ?

Congratulations on having an IQ above 50 in contrast to Shadow and
FredW. You actually understood what I was talking about.

I use the offline update procedure for good reason. That begs the
question why Avira issues confusing instructions pointing to a
fusebundle for which there is no download. When are they going to get
their act together?

I put Avast on my new computer when the latest free AVira version kept
rebooting the machine due to a conflict with another program. Has this
company under new coders or what, like I said, it USED to be a good
program with good support, not any longer.

Still waiting for a reply to my original post questions.

Avira has been left behind. avast! is IMO the best choice today. I am
not interested in programs that require a work around.

Did you ask at the Avira forum?
http://forum.avira.com/

As I have an IQ below 50 and my crystal ball is out of order,
I am not able to read the mind of people at Avira.

Out of curiosity I ran fusebundle.exe
http://www.avira.com/en/support-vdf-update-info

The program filled two(2) folders:
- temp 126.245.310
- install 60.511.042

In folder Install was the file vdf_fusebundle.zip (60.511.042)
containing ae*.dll files and vbase*.vdf files, latest version.
In the folder Temp you can also find *.gz versions of all files.

I assume the files from vdf_fusebundle.zip can/have be copied to the
program files of Avira \ AntiVir Desktop
After copying Avira will be up-to-date.

Thank you, I have my daily download of the latest VDF file back.

I won't run it because Avira states in the How-to that it cannot be used
unless you have 2012 version of or for (can't recall) windows. Also
supposedly it installs a program making manual update more incremental.
Kaspersky never had any problems with manual update when I used it. Maybe
Avira cannot pay bandwidth bills so they have to give us this crap to do
a simple virus definition update download manually. I assume in their
INSTRUKKSHUNS they mean the latest Avira download, which I do not have.
Then whoever is the dummy who writes their INSTRUKKSHUNS says to download
the "old" fusebundle, wherever the hell that is, since they do not give a
link and it cannot be found any place I searched on their site. Maybe
they take their support instructions from Microsuck, maybe that's where
they get their tech writers and coders too now.

Easier to uninstall and install Avast. I'm tired of crap work arounds
from Avira. Besides Avast picked up a virus on my new machine that Avira
missed.

Whatever floats your boat. Avast! is still good, I use both it and
AntiVir free versions on my computers.

Even easier to use than fusebundle.
;-)

dl.antivir.de/down/vdf/ivdf_fusebundle_nt_en.zip

Is what I use for my Multi-AV Scanning Tool's Avira module.

I liked it too, except the part about one app missing a virus that
another app detected actually having any meaning at all.

I suspect that you think it is significant though.

Please don't try to make me agree with you. I don't. It isn't significant
at all as you should know already. Ten different programs will miss ten
different things...nothing alone picks up everything...all together will
still miss some...it's a crap shoot.
