Viewing .avi files on Media player 10 and Acdsee 7, I only get sound no
picture. but I can see and hear the file through QuickTime? any suggestions
would be appreciated.

The file is compressed with a codec and in order to play it correctly you
must have the correct codecs installed.

Download the G-Spot Codec Identifier and it will tell you which codec you
should be looking for.

It is my experience that Media Player sucks when trying to play .avi files.
I use Divx. It's free and plays .avi files just fine. I usually find that
Media Player will announce that it can't play some file, offer to go find
the necessary software, and then do absolutely nothing. Oh, sure, it plays
..mpeg and .wmv files with no problem, but it refuses to deal with .avi files
for some incredibly frustrating reason.

How does Quicktime manage?
