AVG updates question

Hello. I am a new user of AVG Free Edition, version 6.0.766. When
Grisoft releases a new version of this program, do they notify users via
email, or will we get it thru the scheduled update route? I just went to
Grisoft's website, and they are testing a beta version of AVG Free Edition
that will expire Nov. 30, 2004. So presumably a new version will be
available sometime this December.

New versions of the freeware AVG software don't happen very often. They
won't notify you, and the scheduled updates are only for virus definitions.
So you must visit their website to see what is available.

Like you say, the next release is probably due in December 2004, but that
may depend on how the testing goes with their current "freeware AVG 7 beta".
I'm testing it, and it works fine for me. It scans pop3/smtp email just fine
in my [Windows XP Home (SP2)] Outlook Express 6. I'd like to see it scan
news NNTP messages and http mail too, which it doesn't do at present. I've
noticed only a couple of minor quirks, nothing serious.
