AVG Free and 32hal.dll

Don't know where to start, so chronologically. For a while, maybe two months,
at start up I get "Keyhook.exe - Entry Point Not Found" The procedure entry
point ?DDrawSupportGetDriverName@CSiSEsc@QAEHPADH@Z could not be
located in the dynamic link library SiSApCom.dll . I got used to ignoring it
and went on. I"ve been using SpyBot and Defender, when a "friend" told me
that AVG was the "thing". As I was downloading it, after only 90 or so K of a
much larger intended program, it start trying to install. I shut it down and
it took a while to re-boot. It was back up, so I put "AVG XP" on Google, and
found out AVG had a tool to fix my problem. Humbly, I'll admit that I can
read, but didn't do enough before I downloaded the tool, and stupidly ran it.
BAM!! instant blue screen. I waited a couple of days, and upon re-booting,
"windows could not find showdomain\SystemRoot\32hal.dll" and "recovered from
serious error" message that I don't seem to have saved! At this point, my
sound board was gone, and after reinstalling it, "Audio Card is not able to
start Code 10". At this point, I ran SiSoft SANDRA, and found that drivers
for the mb were bad, and BIOS was bad. She's a tough ol' gal, and still
running, so I went to work downloading all the recomended stuff, only to find
that there is no "A" drive. More info to follow, Dawg

That is likely "hal32.dll"...

So after no "A", I tried a recovery date, and lost my modem. Upon restart, I
got a "Recovered from serious error" message and after fruitlessly trying to
send to send the report, the "detail" sheet says
Error signature
BCCode: a1 BCP1:DEAD0010 BCP2:826FDADO BCP3:00000000
BCP4:000000000 OSVer:5_1_2600 SP:3_0 Product:256_1
MB is Foxconn 661MO4-G-6L (which they don't list for BIOS) XP Pro, SP3
Seagate 250 GB, Intel Celeron 2.0Ghz. , Kingston DDR2 512 and DDR 256.
The "learning curve" is steeper than I thought.

Break out youractual Windows XP installation CD (not a recovery CD, not a
restoration CD set) and perform a repair installation.

Thank you Stanley for your help. I' m a lot dummer than I thought, and MY
purpose is to be objective about this problem. I'm trying to learn something
and there's more to it than I had bargained for. Yet.... I'm not fully
understanding.
Will re-installing Windows repair the BIOS?
Does the BIOS look bad because of Windows?

Can you guide me to someone who might read my problem analytically?
I've only been doin' this a few months, but it's my understanding that I
have to repair the mother board and CPU environment first.
Is this true?

If there is something wrong with your BIOS - that is a hardware issue -and
it does not matter what your Operating System is (Windows XP, Windows Vista,
Linux, etc...)

Nothing in your postings have led me to believe you necessarily have a
hardware issue (although that is always a possibility.)

I am unsure what you meant earlier when you said, "At this point, I ran
SiSoft SANDRA, and found that drivers
for the mb were bad, and BIOS was bad." <-- The drivers were bad? The BIOS
was bad?

I think you need to step back and look at this in pieces.

Your hardware - it is likely fine unless something happened you have not
mentioned... Power surge? Adding a piece of hardware (memory, video card,
etc)? Dropping the computer off a desk? Working in an unusually hot
environment?

If you are fairly certain the hardware is fine - then, as I suspect -
something is wrong with the software components (the OS - operating system;
something that got installed on the OS, etc.)

What you may need to do is make a backup of everything important to you
(documents, pictures, emails, contacts, spreadsheets, etc) and using the
installation media that came with your computer - perform a clean
installation.

If that seems like it is too much for you to do on your own, you may need to
take it to someone (or bring in someone) who can do this for you. It's not
a bad thing - not everyone can fix everything they own - that's what trade
is all about. ;-)

If you do want to try it yourself - you need to prepare.

- Copy all files you want to keep off the computer completely (burn to
CD/DVD, external hard disk drive, etc.)
- Make a list of all hardware components in your computer by make/model (I
suggest downloading/installing and running Belarc Advisor on it - printing
the results.)
- Make a list of all installed software on your computer. (Belarc will have
helped here too.)
- Ensure you have downloaded the latest hardware driver for each hardware
component in your computer from the manufacturer's web pages. They need to
be completely separate from the computer itself at this point.
- Ensure you have installation media (CD, DVD, executable files, serial
numbers, product keys, etc) for all software installed on your computer.
They need to be completely separate from the computer itself at this point.
- I suggest downloading and saving Windows XP SP3 separately at this point
as well.
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...A8-5E76-401F-BE08-1E1555D4F3D4&displaylang=en
- Perform a clean Windows XP installation - making sure to wipe out all
traces of the previous installation and all files.
http://www.michaelstevenstech.com/cleanxpinstall.html
- Install the hardware drivers next - so you have a clean and complete
system.
- Install SP3.
- Install your applications.

If you are going to use AVG - that's fine - I suggest installing it CUSTOM
and not installing the EMAIL or LINK scanner options.

Mr. Sanley, thank you for you r help. I took your advice, saved all my files
to cd, then reinstalled XP. Now my product key does not work, and I cannot
finish installing XP.
Microsoft "Help" is such a confusing affair to navigate. Please help. Thank
you, Ervin

You utilized the installation CD and product key that you purchased (and/or
that came with your computer?)

You carerfully entered the product key - S &5, 0 & O, 1 & I, 8 & B,
accounted for?
