AVG 7.0 (yes, 7.0) Free Beta

The updater is improved in 7.0. For users like me, who don't
have their PCs continually powered up and connected to an ISP,
the updater will automatically download the new virus
definitions upon the next available internet connection.

They improved the updater in 6 too.

ISTR it was a few months ago and the website seemed to suggest that
the updater would only work on those who manually downloaded a later
version of the program.

The new ver6 updater is much better than it used to be as it doesn't
download so much each time.

NAV gets good reviews and is said to have one of the best discovery
rates. It was good when I used to have it but uninstalling after the
subscription expired was a real nightmare.

Now I use just AVG but I am far from convinced that it is as good as
it could be or even good enough at discovering any viruses on my
disk.

The tests I've read are indicating that NAV performs better than the
freeware alternatives.

I'm a freeware security missionary installing AV and firewalls for my
security indifferent family and friends. :)
I have, therefore, quite a broad experience.

Most (all?) of them have reported virus attacks, but they've been able to
sort it out themselves.

I've had to help out my friends only twice.
Both victims used NAV.(sic!)
