End of Support for AVG 6.0

Grisoft announces the end of support for AVG version 6.0 effective on
December 31, 2004 for technical reasons. This version has been available
since 1999. It's structure does not allow for further improvements planned
for version 7 nor improvements of detection techniques expected to come in
the future.

End of support means we will no longer provide program updates or Virus
Database updates for version 6.0 and therefore, within days, this version
will not protect against new virus outbreaks!

Current AVG 6.0 users should upgrade to AVG 7.0. Information on upgrading
to version 7.0 can be found at http://www.grisoft.com/us/us_upgrade.php.

Thanks for the information Gene. It brings me to the question what the
experiences of users with AVG 7 are.
Is it still in beta ?
Pros and cons ?
Does it uses more resources than AVG 6 ?
Anyone ?

It seems there will no longer be a free version,. Is that how others read

I just downloaded yet another version 6.0...newer build and think that
this will be ongoing. However, the Grisoft site has always been
difficult to understand.
I can't begin to understand the free..upgrade..pro...Do you all think
that the ver 6.0 that resides there now, will remain free and offer the
AV signature updates as before?

Well according to the Grisoft announcement
" End of support means we will no longer provide program updates or
Virus Database updates for version 6.0 and therefore, within days, this
version will not protect against new virus outbreaks!"

If they have a free version of 7 available why not upgrade?

I didn't understand this to be the case, but I will go back there and
take another look.
I have used the program since inception and it has never failed me...

Thanks....

OK...

I looked again and went to what Grisoft indicates is the 7.0 free
version upgrade.
When the page with the small print appears, at the top, it refers to
6.0. I filled this out again and downloaded and 6.0 came down...not 7.0.

Perhaps I am missing something with this most confusing site.

Well, you couldn't prove it by me. I, too, just downloaded "the
latest" version from Grisoft's site. It's the same old 6.0+ that I had
already downloaded some time ago.

It's free anti-virus...and it's almost -- ALMOST! -- worht the price.

AVG Free 7.0 (beta) can be downloaded here:
http://free.grisoft.com/freeweb.php/doc/16/lng/us/tpl/v5

It is still in beta testing, however, and will only work until 11/30/04, at
which time you'll need to replace it. After 12/31/04, AVG Free 6 will be
obsolete and will be supplanted by AVG Free 7. One of the obvious
improvements in version 7 is in the automatic updating feature, which
actually works.

beta...

A) Version 6 Purchased
B) Version 6 Free

C) Version 7 Purchased
D) Version 7 Trial

http://free.grisoft.com/freeweb.php/doc/16/lng/us/tpl/v5

3. You say that the free download is version 6, not 7.

Conclusion: There will no longer be a free version after November 2004.

I agree with what you quoted ... but my conclusion is ... no more free AVG.

The newest free download is a v7 beta that expires 11/30/2004.

The regular free download is v6.

I see NO statement on their page that says you'll be able to download a free
v7.

Automatic update works fine here, v6.

Where did you see information that there'd be a free v7?
I only see a time-limited beta v7.

Once again, Papageno. As several other folks have pointed out to you, on
the following web page
http://free.grisoft.com/freeweb.php/doc/16/lng/us/tpl/v5
it says:
"Important notice: This Beta version of AVG Free Edition will expire
11/30/2004. By this time, the final version of this product will be
available for your free download."

In other words, by the time the beta version of AVG Free Version 7 expires
on 11/30/04, the final (non-beta) version of the new AVG Free will be
available for you to download for free. What is so difficult about this to
understand?
