Avance AC97 onboard sound VERSUS ps/2 mouse

Feanor

Help! I haven't been able to play sound files off my hard drive since I
performed a clean install of WinXP. The sound is extremely broken and
choppy.

The device is listed as supported, and no conflicts are reported and the
device manager says all devices are working properly. No more recent
drivers are available.

The TRULY ODD part is if I move my mouse pointer the sound clears up. If I
keep the mouse moving the sound plays nearly (but not quite) perfectly.

I have already removed and restored both devices in different orders, just
in case. Anybody have any ideas?

Have you installed your motherboard drivers? The sound drivers (AC'97 is
onboard sound) should be on the cd that came with the motherboard or on
a cd that came with the computer. If you don't have a cd, go to the
motherboard mftr.'s site - or to the OEM's site if you have an OEM
machine (HP, Compaq, Sony, etc.) - and get the drivers for your
specific machine/motherboard.

And they motherboard drivers (aka chipset drivers) will help with the IRQ
controls, so devices that share IRQs will do so correctly.

I appreciate the feedback, but I've already covered those bases. The
motherboard drivers and onboard sound drivers have been installed and the
system reports them compatible and functioning properly.

Well, since you didn't tell us that in your first post, installing
drivers was the logical advice. What about updating your video card
drivers? Have you done that? What about the mouse drivers? If you've
tried to update all drivers with no luck, then put in an inexpensive
pci sound card (after disabling onboard sound) and see if that helps.

Good luck,

Malke
