AutoText Entries missing from menu

Word 2003: From the Tools/AutoCorrect menu, I have a list
of default autotext entries in the AutoText tab. Those
autotext entries should be available through the
Insert/AutoText menu and on the Header and Footer
toolbar. However, they are not there.

My normal.dot is located in C:/Documents and Settings/All
Users/Templates and made sure that the user templates
(Tools/options/File Location) are pointing there as well.

Can anyone help me?

The AutoText menu on the Header and Footer toolbar shows only the AutoText
entries for the Header/Footer style. If you change the style of the
paragraph to Normal, you will see all the entries. This is true of AutoText
in general: what is displayed is always what is defined for the given style;
if no AutoText entries are defined for the style, then all are shown.

Your style must be either "Header" or "Footer" to have these entries show up
on the toolbar.

I don't even have the autotext entries related to the
header and footer, such as Page X of Y, etc.

Rename normal.dot to oldnormal.dot and you should recover the standard
entries. You can then open oldnormal.dot and use the organizer to copy any
personalisations to the new normal.dot that Word will create.
