Autorun Blank

G

Glo

Hi,

I recently installed CS2 with no problem. CS2, then automatically
updated itself and now, when I insert a compact flash card into my USB
Card Reader, I get the auto run window asking what I want to do, but
it's blank.

I went to My Computer and clicked on the drive where the card is and the
only item that gives different options is "Music". Pictures, video,
etc. will only show me a blank Auto Run window.

Running Windows XP Pro.

Thank you,

Gloria

Isn't there an option like ''do nothing'' when you right-click your
card-drive in ''my computer''?
Or do this workaround for enabling or disabling autorun in registry
via regedit (start - run - regedit)

http://autorun.moonvalley.com/enable.htm

Hope this helps Gloria

Hi, kimiraikkonen :)

Actually, it does Autorun, but this is the window I get:

http://www.pbase.com/image/74170313

Hope this makes it clearer.

I'm tempted to just uninstalled CS2 and do it all over again, but that
would be a lot of trouble!

Thanks so much!

I could not find a exact situation on the net after searching but, in
my opinion, there should be a setting about autorun management in CS2.
Please look at settings or preferences in CS2 about autorun.

Bye

I uninstalled CS2. When I rebooted, I found that it had done something
to Paint Shop Pro and a file was missing, so I had to uninstall and
install PSP too!

Now, when I insert the compact flash card into the reader, I get a PSP
option and "Take no Action" option.

I used to get the Windows Explorer, Zoombrowser, PSP Album, options.

What I think is that the file that reads the programs that have been
installed for Autorun, got corrupted and I will have to install those
programs again, but then what about Windows Explorer and even CS2?? I
did not find an option in CS2 for it to activate Bridge for the reader.

This is really confusing. Do you thing I should make another post with
something like "Corrupted Autorun File"?

Thank you!

Hi Glo,

Try fixing the autoplay entries using "CleanHandlers" tool:
http://windowsxp.mvps.org/autoplayhandlers.htm

Click the "Scan and Fix invalid entries" button.

Hi, Ramesh,

I downloaded the utility and clicked on "Scan and Fix invalid entries",
but nothing has changed. I even rebooted. I only have options in Music
and only Paint Shop Pro and Take no Action in Pictures :-(

I used Zoombrowser a lot, so I guess I'll have install it again and,
wait, I also am missing all my video applications, plus the Windows
Explorer option! I'm an amateur photographer and use photos and videos
a lot, this really is a problem for me:-(

Is there any other thing I can do?? In the utility, I can't check on
the options that are on the right side, just in case you suggest I do.

Thank you!

Hi Gloria,

I guess reinstallation of ZoomBrowser and others, is the only way to add them to the AutoPlay listing.

Gloria,

Is the problem seen for CD drives also? Right-click the CD drive in My Computer, and choose Properties. See if the "using Windows Explorer" option is present for the CD drives. I want to know if this problem is specific to flash cards, or for all others also.

If the autorun options are empty for CD drives, there is something
wrong, but just for card reader, there may not a reason to worry.

Good morning!

Yes, it also happens with the cd drives:-( I've lost all the options
there too. Exactly the same as the card reader.

I will be visiting family this weekend, so, if I don't reply, it's
because I don't have a computer.

Thanks so much for your time! Hopefully this problem can be resolved.

Got back from visiting the family.

I was wondering, would a system restore help? It won't erase any of the
programs I installed afterwards, no?? What about a Repair?

Thank you,

Gloria,

Click Start, Run and type Regedit.exe
Navigate to:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\AutoplayHandlers

Backup the branch by exporting it to a REG file (autoplay.reg)

Close Regedit.exe

Send me the REG file via email. (Drop ".XOX" from my email id)

Received your mail with the REG file attachment. I've uploaded a fix for this problem in my site:

Download the following file and save to Desktop
http://windowsxp.mvps.org/temp/glo_aphfix_.reg
Right-click on the file, and then choose "Merge".

See if the remaining options are restored for "Pictures" AutoPlay.
