Autoplay for Removeable Storage Devices destroyed by Nero 7 ??

On two separate Vista installations, I used to get an Autoplay dialog option,
when I inserted a USB Key Drive, or an SD Card. Very nice, very useful.

Now, some days later, the Autoplay option is not appearing anymore? What's
more the Shell Extension (Open Autoplay...) has VANISHED from the rightclick
menu for the device.

The only common factor I can see is that on both PC's, Autoplay disappeared
after installing Nero 7. I somehow suspect Nero Scout might be at the bottom
of the problem. I don't want the feature, Nero insists on installing it and
making it hard to remove. Either Nero, or my removal of Nero Scout has
damaged the Autoplay options for JUST removeable storage devices.

Has anyone else had this problem? Can anyone help me fix the registry to
repair the Autoplay shell extension for these devices?

Thanks
Nigel

Try Control Panel>Hardware and Sound>Autoplay, scroll to the bottom and use
the "Reset All Defaults" button. You may have to do this with the removable
devices attached.

Thanks Jim

Unfortunately I've tried this already and it doens't fix the problem. The
USB key does not appear in the list of devices at the bottom.

Please note my original comment that the shell extension is missing/broken
(Open Autoplay...). I think somehow I need to fix the registry entry that
Nero broke that produced this right-click concept menu item, but I don't know
where to look.

Hi nrms,

I believe i have the same issue, same symptoms except i have never installed
Nero.
Did you ever find a solution ? I also believe that the solution could lie
in a registry edit ,but not sure where to start. Lets Hope someone posts a
fix soon, at least now
i know i am not alone with my frustration.

I've got just the same problem, and in addition I get an 'application not
found' when I try to double click on the removable disc to open it in
Explorer.
Going greyer by the minute!

Have found a solution - it works today, but wether it will work tomorrow?
I found my card reader wouldn't be recognised at all, so plugged in a usb
'4-way'. When that was installed, plugged usb stick in - AUTOPLAY!!!!!!
Same thing with the card reader!!!!!!
Still don't understand why it won't work without the hub in place, but never
mind
