Automatic updates

J

Jack

Sometimes, my computer gets automatic updates and install them but I am not
at easy.
How can I be sure that these are legitimate updates sent by Microsoft?
Is it possible for some hackers to do the same?
Your thoughts please,
Jack

Turn off automatic updates and set the service to just notify you of
updates.
When it does so enter the update site thru Internet Explorer/Tools/Windows
update
When there do a "custom" scan and it will list all of the updates....
Do the High Priority ones for sure ..the Software ones maybe.......and never
the hardware ones for them go and visit the Manufacturers website and check
for newer drivers for your hardware there.

Thank you, peterk.
But my main question is whether it is possible for hackers to simulate
legitimate Windows update?
Has it ever happened before?

It hasn't happened-------yet.
This is not to say it couldn't happen. It would be hard to spoof, but the
bad guys are getting better every day.
