Automatic selection of programs - without double clicking

I have just recently noticed that the icons on my desktop are now underlined.

If I hover the mouse over the icon, it will launch the program without a
double-click.

Can anyone tell me how to turn this off?

Dear Vantage,

I did as you suggested and it did help some of the issue, but I still
notice, for example, in EXCEL, that if I leave my pointer stationary, it will
"click" itself and move the cursor to the cell it is hovering over. Or it
will "select" an option in an application or website just by hovering over it.

Is there a way to correct?

With Regards,

Jon

Have same issue. Drives me nuts! But I can't understand your reply. I see
nothing in folder about toggling off the auto-action, just using 1 or 2
clicks.

I am having the same problem and I've read the posts here, but I can't find
any settings that allow me to change this action. Did anyone ever answer
this????

From Windows Explorer | Tools | Folder Options | Select Double-click to open
an item.

Are you using TweakUI by any chance?

If so, you might have accidentally enabled the XMouse setting.

I don't know what TweakUI is. I have a new Gateway Laptop and this automatic
opening when I hover over anything continues to happen. I've checked all the
mouse settings and folder options....can't find anywhere to change this
setting.
