Automatic (scheduled) Scan Does NOT Work

Windows Defender automatic scan is not working. I had Windows Antispyware
prior to Windows Defender and it did scan the computer daily. Windows
Defender does NOT. I have read most of the posts here and tried everything
and nothing seems to work.

One thing I have noticed about computers that do run the Windows Defender
scheduled scan is that in the in the MP Scheduled Scan Properties in the line
RUN AS they have "NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM" and I have "*********" which is my
name and the computers service tag number.

When I attempt to change whats on the line It says Access Denied and gives
me an error # 0x80070005

Can you help me???

Hello Ranger,

Whatever you do, (installing and updateting or unistalling) always as a
adinistrator.

Is the Task Scheduler disabled under services? Microsoft Antispyware
schedules as a hidden task using the Windows Scheduled tasks facility--so
Task Scheduler needs to be availªble.

Can you gº to Windows Update, select Express (Get high-priority updates),
and apply all offered updªtes
http://update.microsoft.com

Once that is finished, can you verify the update installs?

There are many pre-requisite files which are needed from windows update and
signature update with windows defender will fail until you hªve these files.

Latest version is as follows:
WD v. 1.1.1347.0
Engine v. 1.1.1440.0
Signature v. 1.14.1459.12

What numbers you have?

I need more information here - What OS are you running? etc. etc.

Any clues in the System events log you can see?
