Automatic Name Checking

We are using Outlook 2003 with Exchange 2003. Both are completely up to
date. Everyone is running in Cached Exchange Mode.

Some people are able to enter partial names in the Calendar under Scheduling
& the autocheck takes care of the rest. However, with some of us, we have to
manually check the names when scheduling other users.

I've taken off Cached Exchange Mode for a day & I was able to use the auto
name check with no problem; however, the minute I went back to Cached Mode I
lost the ability of the auto name check.

Is there a fix that allows auto name check in Cached Mode or is this still a
"hit or miss" issue where taking Cached Mode off is the "band aid"?

Thanks!

Wes

Does your Exchange GAL display names in Last, First or First Last order? Are you typing in the entire name or just part of it?

The GAL displays names in First Last order.

I have tried several ways
*first name
*last name
*first 3 letters of username (i.e. jsmith)
*entire name

etc...etc...

The autocomplete feature (type first 1-3 characters) works only with people you've sent mail to in the past.

Since the GAL entries are in First Last order, you should be able to type in the first name, the whole name, or the mailbox alias. Check in Tools | Address Book, Tools | Options to make sure that the GAL is on the list of address lists that Outlook uses to resolve names.

The people I am adding to the scheduling for the Calendar items are people in
the company that I email on a daily basis so that's checked off.

I went into the Tools section of the Address Book & checked to make sure the
GAL was on the list & it is right at the top. I went to the properties & it
shows the current server is:

C:\Documents and Settings\username.DOMAIN\Local Settings\Application
Data\Microsoft\Outlook\

I am 95% sure this because of the Cached Exchange Mode, but other users are
running in Cached Mode & they don't have this issue.

This isn't supposed to happen. Microsoft is supposed to single out the
USERS not the Network Admins for issues like this. HA HA!!!! All I can do
is laugh about this. I'm just stumped.

Ah, I needed to look it up again. When you're using Cached Exchange mode, the first name field is not available for name resolution, but these fields are -- display name, surname, mailbox alias. (This changes in the latest Exchange 2003 and Outlook 2003 SPs, BTW, so that you can resolve against the first name, too.)

So, if you type in the display name but don't get it exactly right, it probably won't work. Typing in the surname only may be more efficient in Cached mode.

The AutoComplete feature works only for addressing messages and meeting requests, not in the Scheduling tab of a meeting request, BTW.
