Cached mode connections to server

We are using WAN compression hardware to optimize our WAN traffic. We are
seeing a high number of connections related to Outlook 2007 cached mode
users. Some clients may have dozens of connections at one time. Can anyone
point me to a document that discusses the type of connections that are
created between an Outlook client (either cached or non-cached mode) and the
Exchange mailbox server. We are running Exchange 2003, SP2.

Thanks for any help you can provide.

I have already found the "Client Network Traffic with Microsoft Exchange
Server 2003" document, but am interested in getting a better understanding of
the number of connections a single client may make with the server rather
than the total volume of traffic. It is the number of connections that seems
to be causing problems with our WAN optimization hardware.
