Is there a way to automate NT Backup to make daily backup with a date based
name to a file on disk?

Yes, there is.

(In case you also wanted to know how: You need to
create a batch file to generate the date-based file name.

Use a program called "Erunt" It is far and away better than Microsoft's
System Restore, and is much more effective too. It is quicker and restores
more file settings in addition to the ones Restore does. It does autobackups
too. I was reluctant to use anything other than MS's Restore, and only used
this program as an addition to it at first...but I am so happy with it I
turned off M.S. Restore altogether and don't use it anymore. Use Erunt.
