Autocomplete Stopped Working

Win XP Home , IE6. My hard drive crashed and I had a new one installed and
had Windows reinstalled and now autocomplete won't work. I've checked all
boxes under Content>Autocomplete. I've unchecked and restarted, then checked
and restarted. And still nothing. Web addresses stay, but any forms, ones
that I use frequently do not. Any thoughts? Thank you.

Hi Sonicj,

The autocomplete entries are stored in the Registry in encoded form so they
whent the way of the Pixies when you replaced your hard drive. You will have
to reenter your user names and passwords on your frequently visited forms to
rebuild your computers 'memory' of your passwords.

I keep a small notepad (stored in a secure place) with all my usernames and
passwords for web sites. You can't beat a hard copy.

Regards.

Hey Rob,
Thanks for the reply. The problem is, I've already visited the same forms
multiple times since replacing the hard drive and still no autocomplete. One
thing that is particularly strange is every time I make any "adjustments" to
the autocomplete I'm not given the option to 'Apply.' I have a feeling this
has something to do with it. Thanks again.

Hi Sonicj,

Try logging on with another account and see if autocomplete is working on
those accounts. The only thing I can think of is a policy restriction in
gpedit.msc.

The Autocomplete settings in Internet Options only have Ok and Cancel
buttons, there is no Apply button on that dialog.

Also web sites can disable autocomplete for their forms to force users to
re-enter their credentials each time.

Also there is an option on the Advanced tab of Internet Options - check 'Use
inline AutoComplete'

Hope these tid-bits help... I think the last setting above may be the
culpret.

Regards.
