Address autocomplete doesn't

M

Mike B

Since yesterday my web address autocomplete in IE6 has stopped working. I
was rebooting and in the frenzy of program startups and stuff I started
overtyping the URL in the address bar of an IE6 window before that page has
fully loaded.

Since then I've tried disabling/enabling autocomplete in Tools -> Content,
but no luck. If I click on the drop-down I get a list of addresses, but the
autocomplete function just doesn't work anymore. Any ideas?

Thanks

Hi Mike :)

Try the following and see if it helps:

Click Clear Forms and restart IE

Have you tried turning AutoComplete off, restarting, turning it back on?

Next, you may have a damaged registry key.
Try this:
With no programs open,
Run REGEDIT and make your way to this key:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER
Software
Microsoft Internet Explorer
IntelliForms
SPW
Create a System Restore point or export that key (Registry> Export- just in
case you wish to undo the change) then delete it- just the SPW key.
Restart the computer.

also...

Your History folder may have been damaged or corrupted:

For XP follow the instructions at Mike Burgess' site as the process and
paths differ from W98:
http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/delcache.htm
To delete the History folder and index.dat (XP)
Scroll down to the section on Deleting the History folder

Log on as Administrator and delete the desired <username> folder and reboot.
(or log on as another user that has Administrator privileges)
Example: "C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\HISTORY"

or..................

To create a new History Folder
http://inetexplorer.mvps.org/answers_8.htm#deltree
http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/delcache.htm (XP systems)

Or try installing TweakUI.

Hope this helps :)
