AutoComplete problems after running Microsoft AntiSpyware Beta 1

Has anybody, with WinXP SP2 installed, tried AutoComplete (with forms) after
running the new Microsoft AntiSpyware Beta 1?

I am talking about the AutoComplete setting at:

Tools > Internet Options > Content (tab) > AutoComplete (button) > Forms
(checkbox)

Here is what I discovered after many hours of researching why my
AutoComplete history was not being updated for some Google search pages -
such as Google Advanced Group Search at:

http://groups.google.com/advanced_group_search?hl=en

This problem arises on my Windows XP Home Edition (SP2) after running the
new Microsoft AntiSpyware Beta 1.

STEPS

1) Download Microsoft AntiSpyware Beta 1 at
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...a2-6a57-4c57-a8bd-dbf62eda9671&displaylang=en

2) Launch the program and select the option to Run Quick Scan Now.

3) After the scan is complete you should see (or may see) the following
listed as detected spyware - under the column 'Threat Name'.
"Possible Browser Hijack (Browser Modifier)"

4) Leave the default drop-list selection on the far left as REMOVE.

5) Check the checkbox for "Create restore point"

6) Now click the Continue button.
**************************

There you have it. You will no longer be able to use AutoComplete & forms
with the aforementioned Google search page for searching newsgroups, etc.

Here is what I discovered.

As I stated in my initial post.

*****
After the MS AntiSpyware Beta 1 (MSAS) scan is complete you should see (or
may see) the following listed as detected spyware - under the column 'Threat
Name'.
"Possible Browser Hijack (Browser Modifier)"
*****

If you click Continue to remove this item the following happens:

The URL (in my Favorites folder) for Google's web page for searching
"groups" is changed to a URL that does not accept AutoComplete.

URL BEFORE REMOVAL
http://groups-beta.google.com/advanced_group_search?hl=en

URL AFTER REMOVAL
http://groups.google.com/advanced_group_search?hl=en

So the fix is an easy one.

Simply use IE's "Organize Favorites" feature to change the URL back to
http://groups-beta.google.com/advanced_group_search?hl=en

Kelly,

I posted an issue I discovered with MSAS and what the workaround (or
solution is).

So with all due respect, I am not sure why you posted a list of Google
'hits' for support of this product.

What am I missing here?

Sorry to hear about Alex Nichol. How sad.

My bad, Michael. The reason for the link was that I didn't have the MSAS
newsgroup link handy and know that you would have probably found it within.
Thanks for your feedback and for your note for Alex. He was one of a kind!
