Windows users from spyware and other potentially unwanted software. Known
spyware on your PC can be detected and removed. This helps reduce negative

What platform did you try it on? It's been rock solid on my windows XP
machine.

Farted all over W2K. First time I have had a hung machine in I don't know
when.

Is it supposed to REMOVE spyware like Adaware and Spybot does, or prevent it
from setting up housekeeping on the PC?

The SOBs won't even include earlier versions of Windoze in their own
software? How far would anybody else get if they excluded 98 and ME?

I've read in another NG that it has even screwed up the Firefox extension
manager.

Running strings on GianttAntiSpywareUpdater.exe:

"Because your Microsoft AntiSpyware subscription has expired, needed spyware
definitions could NOT be downloaded and installed. Your definitions should
be updated as soon as possible to prevent spyware infections. Your Microsoft
AntiSpyware Subscription has Expired"

and running strings on gcASNotice.exe

"We hope your trial went well. Unfortunately you are now no longer protected
from the growing dangers of spyware, worms and trojans. Continue to keep
your self protected, purchase the full version today with a full money back
guarantee."

It has been reported that a software update listens on port 2571 until
the software is closed. No doubt the script kiddies will have some fun.

It's been solid on my XP machine, but it insists on putting Windows
Messenger back in my startup every time I remove it.

No crashes here, but plenty of bugs if you count the all too many proven
false positives detected.

It lasted approximately 24 hours here.

No problems here. Haven't seen Windows Messenger show up, either.

You should keep in mind that this is GIANT antispy, which has
been rated very highly.. My guess is that MicroSoft has
customized it so that it leavrages its products, and
particularly in the future when they release IE7.

On my system (Win2K) it did not cause any problems, and this
morning it tried (I let it) update its data file from Giant..
It also tried to visit crl.microsoft.com and
crl.verisign.com, which I blocked. Don't know about the
outcome of all of this on the program functionalilty.

Same here, except I have big red X on that stupid messenger. It has to sit in the
tray bar
but it is NEVER used. I always says, "not signed in". It was like that prior to
dl'ing the
MS Anti-Spyware program and it's still like that. I've had it installed nearly a week
now
and so far without a hitch. It runs in the background as Ad-aware does. BTW with
SpyBot Search and Destroy, and the DSO glitch. Is that ever going to be fixed, or
is S&D going to keep showing it as a problem which is NEVER fixed though after
running it, it says 'five problems fixed' or whatever the number is? OS is XP. TIA

crl.microsoft.com are load balancing servers - they used to use Akamai.

Before somebody revealed publicly that Akamai uses Linux
servers...very embarassing for Microsoft...

The headline was something like "The Penguin Protects Microsoft"!
