AutoArchiving

I posted this question once, but I'm still stuck, so I'm trying again.

Every two weeks, I get prompted to autoarchive all folders. Usually I tell
it to do so, but then when I look at the archive folders in my list, they are
still all empty. In addition, I noticed that older emails are gone out of my
regular folders, and I can't find them anywhere (although when they
disappear does not necessarily seem to be the same time as when I
autoarchive)! Can anyone figure out where my files are going?? I checked my
AutoArchive settings, and it seems to be set to "move old items to" the place
where I've been looking for them. And most of the folders also seem to be
set to use default settings, and not sending the files somewhere else. And
yet, they're still gone!

Any suggestions? At this point I've just given up and turned archiving off,
but that's clearly not an ideal solution.

Thanks in advance!

Where should I search? In Outlook, when I go to File-->Open-->Outlook Data
File, there is one in there called "archive." When I go to open it, my left
side menu jumps down to the archive folders, and they all show up as empty.
Is there another place to look for the archive.pst file that I need to try?

What version of Outlook are you using? Have you done a search for *.pst? Make
sure you search hidden files and folders.

It is outlook 2003. I just searched my whole system for *.pst, including
hidden files and folders, and I find just the one file called "archive"
which, when I try to open it from in Outlook, brings me to a collection of
empty folders.
