Deleted Items Missing

I'm using Outlook 2007 on a home computer and all of the Deleted Items
messages have disappeared except those from today and yesterday. Hundreds of
others are now gone. The AutoArchive box popped up this morning asking if I
wanted to archive and I responded yes. I believe this is when it happened.
They are not in my Archive Folders either. The Archive Folder only contains
messages from August of 2007. I've read tutorials, etc on the Microsoft
website and have checked my AutoArchive settings and nothing says to delete
messages after 2 days. I did notice that the "Delete expired items (e-mail
folders only) was checked and I've unchecked it now. But the Default folder
settings for archive is set to 6 months. I also checked the setting
specifically for the Deleted Items folder and it says to use the default
settings to AutoArchive. Any idea why they were deleted and whether there is
a way to get them back? Thanks

The default setting specifically for the Deleted Items folder seems to be
'permanently delete the items', if I remember right.

Actually, the default setting for the Deleted Items was to use the "global"
default archive settings which was set to archive things older than 6 months
but the "Delete expired items (email folders onlyl) was checked as well. The
thing is that these deleted items weren't expired...some were only 2 days
old. Any help is still appreciated. Thanks

Do you often receive messages with request for a read receipt?I think those
Deleted Items messages may be permanently deleted. To get around this try
using the archive settings specific for each folder in stead of the general
settings.
