Auto off after shutdown

I'm tryuing to make my pc turn off after i shut it down
like it used to under win98. I now have XP pro

I have changed the registry to read a '1' for auto power
off after shut down, in something like local
machine\software\microsoft\windows nt\current
version\winlogon but it still wont switch off.

I have contacted the motherboard maufacturer who advised
me to change my ACPI to APM and gave me instructions on
how to do this, (which were a bit vague) but I still have
no APM tab in power options control pannel. I had to go
into device manager and update the driver for 'my
computer' to standard PC rather than MPS multiprocessor
PC, but it made no difference. I changed back to MPS
multiprocessor PC, as i was worried that with it set to
standard pc my dual Pentium 2 machine might not function
properly?

Can anyone help me? Do i need to change to APM? I looked
in the BIOS and there is nothing to enable it there. If
do need to do that, how do I go about it? I know it must
be possible as I could do it under 98

The first section of the shutdown troubleshooter at
http://www.aumha.org/win5/a/shtdwnxp.htm deals with the computer rebooting
instead of shutting down. Farther down the page is a section that deals
with powerdown issues. The info there may help you get this resolved.
