Running Pre-RC1 (Vista32)

How do you get rid of the login screen so that it defaults to my normal
login. The method used for the previous version does not work. Can someone
tell me how to do it with this version?
Thanks

only possible if you don't have your account password-protected and you are
the only user.

Then Vista will boot directly into your Desktop without the login-screen.

I am the only user with the exception Guest & Administrator. If Guest and
Amin don't count, how do I set it up. Currently I have a password in place.
It seems a bit backwards, to remove your password inorder for the autologin
to work.

Like I said.
To enable autologin you will have to not protect your account with a
password.
That is the Vista-Way. No Way other.

If you think you risk the privacy of your Data = You know that you can
enable Bitlocker Drive Encryption, so that Vista only will boot up with a
USB-Stick inserted, where the Decryption-Key is stored in ...

The way I do it with RC1 is to run the Command Prompt (as Administrator),
then in the Cmd prompt window issue the usual "control userpasswords2"
command. Then take the check mark out of "user must enter a password to
logon". You're prompted for which user to logon automatically and what
password to use.

It works just the same as W2K, XP and the previous builds of Vista.

I've always done the same thing as well however in RC1 it's not working. I
make the setting but on reboot no dice, I still have to login. When I look
at the panel afterward it looks like it's still set. Not sure what's going
on.

Yes, I've noticed this too. Any thoughts would be appriciated.

Take a look at HKLM\Software\Microsoft\WindowsNT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon
key in the registry and double check that the DefaultUserName and
DefaultPassword string values are present. If not, create them with the
user name and pw you want to autologin.

I just use a .reg file to install many of my settings, but I noticed on
another machine that those strings were present.

That's a rather convoluted way to make this work but it does indeed work. I
noticed within the winlogon folder there is a string names AutoAdminLogon.
I assume that has to do with when you boot into Safe Mode (can't remember
but I think safe mode auto logs you in as admin.)

I also noticed a key named AutoLogonChecked which had no strings therein.
Perhaps future implementation eh?

That what I was looking for. Thanks Toph and Michael.

I had to add the items in the Registry and remove password. It is working
great now.

I fail to understand why this option is hidden from view and can only be
accessed through the run: cmd ? Whay isn't it found in Control Panel under
User account? Where it should be.

Anyway great help guys thanks
