Audio problems with WMP10 and XP Pro SP2

I just noticed odd sound behavior. Currently I can hear sounds using WMP10
and Real Player, but system sounds don't work and Flash player sounds don't
work. I'm still looking into if anything else is toast. I'm not sure but this
may have started with the last round of IE security updates and or WMP10
security updates. All of this is on a Toshiba P25 laptop. Any help would be
appreciated. tnx
