hearing echo (and not only in my empty head ;-)

Hi,
I really don't claim to be a computer guru, but I do know how to fix
the usual troubles... but know I'm totally lost:
I'm hearing echo in my laptop (it's NOT the voices in my head - the
doctor tell me to ignore them ;-) in any sound I play - WMP10
(upgraded to WMP11 and no change), VLC, Quicktime, windows sound
themes, Skype, etc, etc...
Anything that comes out has echo!

This is WinXP SP2, in a Toshiba Satellite 1130-SP, and I can't
remember having installed any new software lately (maybe some
automatically upgrades...), and definitively no hardware changes...

Anyone helpful out there?
At least where to search (my searches for "echo" returns a lot of ms-
dos bat files.... ;-)

thanks
/javier

One reason could be that your mic is on, and you are getting feedback,
another is a bad driver, and you can try getting a new copy.

Go to Start/Run, and type DEVMGMT.MSC , highlight all the sound devices,
Action menu, "Uninstall", then restart Windows, to find the device drivers
again automatically.

No, my mic is not on (doesn't have any plugged in).
I'll try to reinstall the sound devices...
thank you (I'll be back...)
