audio problem

I am not getting any sound on my pc even though I did all the checks. There are no conflicts, drivers are ok, volume is not muted. I played a CD with no probs but jus could not hear it. Can anyone help me ?
 
There is a cable that goes from CD drive to your sound card.... is it in place?
 
Did you use a 2nd set of speakers to test the audio cable to the speakers or just to check the speakers themselves. Also, "r" makes a good point in checking the audio cable from your cd rom to the sound card/board in your pc.
 
thank you so much r. i have been trying everything to fix the sound. i just
didn't think that the cable came out. (So much stress relieved)
