audio file empty after importing

I have used WMM since 05 and have never had this problem. I am using 2.1.
When importing .wma or .mp3 audio files, after importing, I get an error
message that the file is empty. However, i can play the file, so I know it's
there. I've done a web search and it seems others are having this problem,
but no solution is presented. Is there another string I might have overlooked
where I can read up on this or does anyone have any experience with this?
Also, is there a newer version of WMM that might help the problem? I've heard
10 is better than 11...?

thanks!

I mean to say .wav, not .wma...
And I also found that the newest WMM 2.6 is for Vista, so disregard that
question. thanks!
