I get mpg file is empty file when importing video

My Noikon saves videos in MOV format, which is NOT supported by Windows Movie
Maker {BUT SHOULD BE!}, so I have converted the files to MPG files, but when
I try to import any of the converted videos WMM pops up with a window that
says:

The file D:\Cat Video from Nikon Camera\Silent Conversions\Close Up Face
Shots.mpg is an empty file.

But I can LOAD every one of these "EMPTY FILES" into any other prgram that
plays MPG files and they play fine.

So the files ARE NOT EMPTY!

So how can I make WMM import these video clips? And why is it telling me
they are "EMPTY FILES" when, in fact, THEY ARE NOT!???

Any help here would be very much appreciated it.

I like the program and it works great for still photo's, but I want to be
able to create some movies from several video clips I can put together.

I have tried both importing them one at a time as well as a multi-import,
each time WMM tells me the file(s) is(are) "empty", I am using the most
current version 2.1 of WMM.

I just don't understand how the software determines wether a file is empty,
especially since NOT A ONE of the files I have tried to import are empty, the
video is there, anyone know what is going on with this? Oh, the videos have
also been resized (camera takes them in 640x480 DVD MOV format) to 320x240
MPG format.

I have tried converting these MOV files into AVI and WMV as well, each time,
I get the same "file is empty" error message.

Please HELP! if you can.

Movie Maker doesn't handle MOV or MPEG-2 files.... see my website's Import
Movie Source Files > Video section for pointers and comments about
conversions to files that work.

Thanks PapaJohn, your site is great! Now I know which codec I need to use
to convert the MOV files properly. Although I may try that rename just to
see if it works for me, kind of doubt it, but can't hurt. :)

Thanks again! Great help! Now I've just got to get back over to your site
so I can subscribe to the newsletter! Didn't know there was so much info
about WMM!

Thanks for the comment Clay....

Sometimes a rename helps get an app to try using the file... even if it
doesn't change the nature of the file itself.... like changing a .vob file
from a DVD to an .mpg in order to use it in a computer app.

PapaJohn,

What do you think is the best converter
from .mov to .wmv?

Would you recommend Expression
Media Encoder? QuickTime Pro?
