Audio CDs Recognized as WAV media

I have this weird problem I hope someone can help me
with. My OS is Windows XP Pro and I have a CD-ROM and CD-
RW drive that work fine, with the exception that when I
play and audio CD in either one, XP's Volume Control Panel
recognizes the media as a wav file rather than coming from
the CD drive. Which means, of course, that I can't set
volume control levels specifically for CD's. Drivers are
all up to date, and no conflicts show in Device Manager.
It's weird - any help would be much appreciated!

It's the differnece between listening to an analog signal, versus a digital
one. If you switch it, it should then work.

.

Thanks, Galley. Any "workaround" you know of for that?
Seems like if you want the digital playback quality you
have to put up with running it through the "Wave" channel
with all the other audio that uses that as well.

I'm not really sure. Feurio, the program I use for creating audio CD's
allows either method to be used when using its CD player.
