Hi Rick,

I thought my problems were over, but they are not!!!
I can not delete the folder that I created for the 2nd install
(windows2), I got as far as the last 7 folders, like system32, temp,
webSxS, etc., I tried the del through the cmd line (access denied) and
tried with Winxplorer which let me delete everything but those files
indicated above.
Can you tell me how to delete this folder so I can get my hd back (40gb)??

Tks, sorry to bother you again!

it's not a good idea to just delete folders to get rid of a windows install,
it's a much better idea to boot to the current os and delete the old
partition then format and activate it. if you wish to merge one partition
into another xp will not do that, you will need to either delete all active
partitions and format then re-install.
or get a third party piece of software like partition magic and most likely
you will at least have to perform a repair install after the partition merge,
if your merging into the partition where the os resides, xp doesn't share
well.

Sgopus,

that's not what I want or wrote.
I want to delete the folder were the 2nd install is: c:\windows2, I'm
hopping that it is understood what exactly this is what I want to do. I
do not want to format anything because I **did not create a separate
partition for the 2nd install of winxp**. I just installed this folder
to keep on going while I had to fix the 1st windows instal because of a
problem with an application that went bad and left windows full of
corrupted folders and files and could not even boot from it, the first
install is now fixed and working ok and I want to simply delete the 2nd
install (because of a lack of space on my small HD), and go on from
there. I'm having all kinds of problems because I run out of ideas out
to delete this 2nd instance of winxp-pro, delete from the command prompt
I get and access denied, deleting from winexplorer I get some error
about could not delete so and so file, so what's the easier or hard way
to delete this darned folder (\windows2)????

I'm not very smart in this matter, I only can go so far and become stuck
after that, I'm not a tech/geeck,

tks

Hi Rick,

tks for coming back. I think I have another problem. By deleting
(previously) the second multiboot in boot.ini, I c an't boot to
\windows2 folder and tried to do it from the cmd line but does not do it
from there so I have no way (I think?) to take ownership of the folder
in question or do I??
If not, I'll save the files that I have to and reformat and re-install??

tks

Hi,

Boot the WinXP CD, start setup. At the point where you choose the
installation location, you can either format the volume or delete it. I
recommend deleting it and creating a new one in most instances. If you have
data on the drive, you don't want to do either of these. Afterwards, you can
continue with installation.

Hi,

From the Recovery Console, you'd run bootcfg /add to add the installation to
the existing boot.ini file.
