ATI DVD Player 7.6 - Does it work?

Hello,

I am trying to use the ATI DVD Player 7.6 to play DVDs but all I ever get is
a black screen with choppy sound.
SiSoftware Sandra states that the DVD drive is a 5X drive, and it reads data
just fine.
I am currently using version 5.13.1.6071 of the graphics drivers for the
Radeon 7200.
Is there a later driver version with a patch to fix this?
Does the ATI DVD Player 7.6 have problems with SCSI DVD drives?
Here is my system...
Windows 2000 Professional SP2
ASUS A7M266 Motherboard
AMD Athlon XP 2100+ (Palomino, 13x166FSB, 1733mhz)
768MB *DDR (dual-channel mode)
*Micron 512MB DDR PC2100
*Micron 256MB DDR PC2100
ATI Radeon 7200 64MB DDR
Creative Audigy Soundcard
Creative Modem Blaster Flash56 DE5620-2
Adaptec 29160N Ultra160 (AIC-7892A) SCSI Host Adapter
Hard Disk : QUANTUM ATLAS IV 9 WLS SCSI Disk Device (8.6GB)
Hard Disk : QUANTUM LPS540S SCSI Disk Device (516MB)
Hard Disk : QUANTUM VIKING II 9.1SCA SCSI Disk Device (8.5GB)
CD-ROM/DVD : PIONEER DVD-ROM DVD-305 SCSI CdRom Device (CD 40X Rd) (DVD 5X
Rd)
CD-ROM/DVD : PLEXTOR CD-R PX-W1210S SCSI CdRom Device (CD 32X Rd, 12X Wr)

Any and all help is appreciated.

6071 is well over a year old - go to
http://mirror.ati.com/support/driver.html and pick up the current Catalyst
3.6 suite.

I had some intermittent stuttering with MMC 7.6 on my AIW Radeon (also
Radeon 7200 chip) equipped Tyan S2460 motherboard based machine (also under
Windows 2000 SP2). Perhaps its related in some way to the AMD Northbridge
chipset common to both of our motherboards. As already suggested, you will
need to use newer drivers because MMC generally needs at least a certain
version of driver in order to function properly. I'm using Catalyst 3.6
drivers under Win2k SP4 and MMC 8.1 with no DVD problems now. MMC 8.1 (which
is available to buy on a CDROM) has a new improved DVD Player "Engine" I've
found its much smoother than 7.6's one. My DVD-ROM Drive is a plain
Panasonic UDMA one so I don't know if the fact your drive is SCSI is
contributing to it - I'd be making sure the Adaptec cards drivers are the
latest though.

Hi

I had problems with stuttering video & sound, using DVD Player 7.6, also
problems with lip synch. Some disks were better than others for stuttering,
But all of them would only play for 10 or 15 minutes before I had to stop &
start playback to reset the audio synch.

This was on a SIS735 chipset with integrated n/s bridge so I don't think
it's the mobos at fault.

I am now also using MMC 8.1 and I agree it is so much better at playback -
picture & sound! Though I did find 8.1 wouldn't work with my "region free"
drive and had to flash the drive to RPC2 before 8.1 would work..
