screen locking after 24 hrs

Hi there!

I leave my computer on most of the time, as it is a de facto media
server for the rest of the house.

Very often if it has been on for longer than 24 hrs without a restart ,

the screen goes "strange" ; all titles disappear from icons on the
desktop, the start button seems to migrate to the top left on the
screen, and the mouse illicits only very erratic responses from the
desktop. cntrl alt del does not show the task manager, although files
on the computer can be browsed from elsewhere on the network. And there

appears to incoming traffic on the router from azureus. I am able to
do a proper shut down by pressing the on off button, which is
configured to shut down windows. On restart the screen is normal
again, which suggests to me that it is not a video card overheat
becasue it is normally good for another day or two before it happens
again.
There are no lines or dots on the screen.

Next time it happens I will take a photo of the screen as the screen
dump will not work when this happens.
would very much appreciate help on this one as it obviously
compromises this sytems usefulness as a stable "server".

Hi Mike

Thanks for the tip. However, I have all my power/hibernation options
unchecked.

Would greatly appreciate any other ideas.

I am going to reinstall windows (again) NOW. I think I know the indian
gentleman's first name by now who gives me my activation code!

regards

David
