Assigning styles to captions

Is it possible to assign different caption styles to 'Table and 'Figure' when
inserting the caption or can this only be done after the caption has been
inserted.

i.e. When I insert a table caption I would like it to be left aligned and
kept with next and when I insert a figure caption I would like it to be
centered. I realise I can create new styles for these but can they be
assigned to the 'Insert Caption' 'Label' so it happens automatically??

I think you know the answer: you have to apply the styles after inserting
the caption. Sorry.
