ASR File Selection

Ok, I've read. And given that NTBackup is an arcane method with today's
technology, I'm still tryin' it...
I'm backing up to an FAT32 80G Ext HD, so of course I am limited to the size
of the bk file, but my question is:
Why is backing every .doc and .jpg in my folders!?!? I thought it was only
supposed to select the system recovery files.
I'm using the GUI interface, which opens in Advanced mode, I select ASR
Wizard and it opens a new window. Nothing on the Backup window in the
background is selected. I don't get it.
Is there anything I can do about this, aside from getting a real backup
tool...
Thank you!

As I recall the ASR wizard backs up everything on the boot drive. In
addition an ASR restore is very cumbersome, and the several times I tried
it, it did not fully restore the system. It booted but a couple of apps
didn't run. I switched long ago to an imaging program as a backup solution.
I currently use Acronis True Image Home v. 10 which works in XP and Vista.
It can image a drive or individual partitions, clone a drive, and do file
backup. Restores can be done on a drive, partition or file basis. Imaging
can be full, incremental and differential, saving space on subsequent
images. Check Newegg.com for prices on it. Other programs that do imaging
are Norton Ghost and Terabyte Unlimited's Image for Windows.
