ARP Cache Flush Error

I have a Windows XP Home machine and the network connection keeps
transmitting and receiving packets, very small numbers of them. I have
scanned the machine for both virus and spyware and have come up clean. I
tried to "Repair" the connection but get the error

The following steps of the repair operation failed:
Flushing the ARP cache.

Please contact your network administrator or ISP.

Now this is a problem since I am the network administrator and am connected
through a DSL connection to SBC. Is there any way to correct this error or
do I need to? My connection seems like it is "polling" but I can't tell
what or why.

I have manually performed the repair process as described in Knowledgebase
289856

As always any help is appreciated.

Sounds very normal to me.
All ISP's will ping your machine every so often to chack
if the connection is still alive.
I wouldn't worry about it....
Make sure you run a decent firewall like zonealarm from
Zonelabs (free of charge). That will keep nosy people
out.

I thought about that but it doesn't fly. First the other 2 machines on my
network do not show the traffic and second they do not have the ARP error.
There is a hardware firewall on the DSL Modem/Router and all machines are
protected by antivirus so I am not worried about intrusions. I am more
concerned that something may be going bad either on my Gigabit connection,
which is part of my motherboard, or something will be slowing down my
network. This is new as of yesterday afternoon. It has been working
without this traffic for the past 2 years.

go to a command prompt and enter:
netsh interface ip delete arpcache

I believe the error message is just saying that the ARP cache is empty.
That's not a problem in and of itself, but an indication that you haven't
successfully connected to any other machines.
