Are there any programs comparable to Total Uninstall?

The last freeware version of "Total Uninstall" is 2.35 and I don't know of
any other program that scans your registry pre and post install, so that
you can remove all installed registry strings and OS files that were added,
when uninstalling.

The current version is 3.81 and looks like a major improvement.

I use InstallWatch (http://www.epsilonsquared.com/). Don't know how
long since its last update. The "new" version 2.5 has been "new" since
the year 2000. I've been using AIDA32 Enterprise Version before it
became Everest Home when Lavalys bought it, but it still works great
despite Lavalys then dumping it in the trash (since they really intended
to make a buck off it with their commercial version).

If you want to make sure your system is pristine of an application that
you experiment with, get Virtual PC and install the app in the virtual
machine. You can then shutdown without saving any changes to the
virtual machine, or delete the VM's drive file and then copy back a copy
that you made before the install.

You could also use ShadowSurfer but it is a bit clumsy to use (reboot to
load ShadowSurfer and then reboot to restore your drives back to the
state before you engaged ShadowSurfer). The free version
(http://www.shadowstor.com/download.html) doesn't let you save changes
but then if it did then many users would commit the changes and lose the
protection, anyway (versus just doing the 2nd install outside of
ShadowSurfer).
