Archive Attribute

I'm using Word 2003 and trying to create, rename or copy documents. I am
prevented from doing so because the document is listed as Archived under
Properties. This happens on documents that already exist, and also new
documents that I have created from scratch without copying an existing
document as a template. Can someone tell me what sets the Archive attribute?
Thank you.

Your problem must be caused by something else because Word documents always
have the Archive attribute set (which just means that they are "ready for
archiving or backing up").

Suzanne,

I did a little more detective work and here is what I found. If I create a
Word doc from scratch and save it to my local drive, then look at the
properties, I see Read Only and Hidden for the attributes. However, if I
take that same document and copy it to our shared network drive, I see the
same two plus an attribute for Archive and it is checked. Is there something
that allows the setting of variables such as this for a whole drive or folder?

Also, on the shared drive, if I uncheck the Archive box, I can move or
rename the file.

Thanks
Gail

I think this is more a Windows/network issue than a Word issue.
