Unwanted Persistent Formatting in 2002

Connie Winch

I'm using Word 2002 SP3. I created a template based on an existing document,
which had Shadow formatting applied to a lot of the paragraphs. I deleted all
of that content, and in the styles I created, didn't define Shadow in any of
them.

Now, however, when I apply that template to other existing documents, it
turns Shadow on in (some of) my styles when I reopen those documents later.

The "Keep track of formatting" check box on Tools/Options/Edit is off.

Can anyone tell me what might be causing this and how I can prevent it from
happening again?

Thanks!

I would carefully inspect the style hierarchy, starting with the
document after you've attached the new template and look at the styles
that have inherited the "shadow" setting; and inspect their parent
styles ("based on" style), too. Then look at the same styles in the
template itself.
