Apply computer settings...

I'm running XP, logging into a domain.
After I type my password it comes up with "Apply computer
settings..." for 10 minutes before it carries on and gives
me my login script and desktop.

Removing my PC from the domain, then adding it back = same
10min wait.
Logging on as a different user = same 10min wait.
Logging on locally = no wait.
Logging on as me on a different xp pc = no wait.

Any ideas of what's going on or what else I can try.
I'd rather not have to reload...

This sounds like KB article 329457. I have the same
problem, but I can't see how to download the hotfix from
microsoft. Anyone know where we can get it?

Make sure the XP box is configured to point to the DNS server that contains
the domain SRV records and not an ISP DNS server.

You need to contact MS Product Support per 329457 or you can wait for SP2

A supported fix is now available
from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that is
described in this article. Apply it only to computers that are experiencing
this specific problem. This fix may receive additional testing. Therefore,
if
you are not severely affected by this problem, Microsoft recommends that
you
wait for the next Windows XP service pack that contains this fix.

To
resolve this problem immediately, contact Microsoft Product Support
Services to
obtain the fix. For a complete list of Microsoft Product Support Services
phone
numbers and information about support costs, visit the following Microsoft
Web
site:

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=fh;EN-US;CNTACTMS

NOTE: In special cases, charges that are ordinarily incurred for
support calls may be canceled if a Microsoft Support Professional
determines
that a specific update will resolve your problem. The typical support costs
will apply to additional support questions and issues that do not qualify
for
the specific update in question.

DNS settings are supplied by DHCP... I checked them
against another XP PC I can log into ok and they're
exactly the same.

Thanks for the suggestion.
