Hi, Im running Win2000 Pro SP4 on an HP XW8000 with dual 3.06GHz Xeons, and
2GB of RAM. Every once in awhile, completely randomly, Windows will stop
letting me launch ANY applications, including the Task Manager. The only way
I can get it to work again is to hit the power button on the front, and have
Windows do a Shut Down. Restart doesn't even work...it just closes all the
apps and leaves Widnows open. Anyone have a clue?

Try looking at Event Viewer for events around the time of the crash the next
time it happens and check for Errors and Warnings to see exactly what is
happening.

The Event Viewer shows no problems. The system doesn't really "crash", or
lockup. It just doesn't allow me to launch ANY apps. Any apps that are
currently running will continue to function normally as long as I don't close
them.

Patrick:

Can you get launch the task manager through Crtl-Shift-Esc?

If not, always leave task manager running on your server so that when
this happens next time you will be able to view the memory utilization,
processor utilization, and running processes. This may give you some
insight into what may be causing the problem.
