Applet won't die!!!!!

This is a tricky one. I loaded an HTML editing program to try out
called AceHTML Pro. I didn't like it and uninstalled it. So far so
good.

I run under XP Home SP1 with Office 2000 plus its service patches.

Now, I am trying to load a different small applet, not an add-on to
anything, and everytime I begin the process, the AceHTML installer
comes up and over-rides the new applet installation. I have done
registery search and destroys and looked for all the files I can on
the system and deleted them...but somewhere this pesky thing is
hiding. How do I get the new applet to load and how do I kill off the
AceHTML installer forever????????

You should contact the AceHTML tech support folks. They should know that
their uninstaller doesn't do a good job and will be able to tell you
how to get rid of all traces of their program.

The company has the phantom tech support group. You cannot get tech
support without registering your product...which I did not buy..so I
cannot register. This company needs a dose of competition I think.

Two thoughts come to mind: 1) do a System Restore to before you
installed AceHTML. Of course, if you installed other stuff afterwards,
this isn't the best idea. 2) hand-pick all references to AceHTML out of
your computer.

transmissions on the internet...and I cannot find it. It isn't
isolated files, it has to be the whole thing...how is that

Well, of course it isn't possible. Somewhere on your system something is
left of AceHTML. Unfortunately, who knows what it is named? You might
do a search for the AceHTML company name (assuming its different).
Here's another idea - install something else that does html editing and
hope it will take over the associations. Aside from insisting on help
from AceHTML or formatting your drive and reinstalling Windows, I'm out
of ideas. Maybe one of the regular Windows experts in this newsgroup
will know a registry key to change or delete. Good luck.

I finally got a response from their tech folks. Their program is
embedded in the setup.exe that is unpacked!!! Now, I have to look for
the various setup.exe files on my system and eradicate the sucker from
AceHTML!!!!!! It was too easy to assume they would call their files by
thier corporate or product names!!! Thanks for the tips. It was the
right direction, but we needed a nudge from their tech support.

Bastards. I hate people who write such crappy software that can't easily
be uninstalled. Thanks for letting me know the answer, and best of luck

I had a similar problem with another application and solved it by
deleting the leftover installer application in C:\Windows\Installer.
You may have to wade through a bunch of files to find the right one.
