That is one of the reasons AOL is losing 4000 customers a day.
1. Why would a person used such a high priced internet provider.
2. Why would a person allow their internet provider to
place thousands of trash files on their computer?
3. Why would a person allow AOL to take control of their computer with so
much spyware, malware, and Hijacking files?

DUMP THEM and the reinstall windows, that's the only way to remove all the
trash that AOL puts on your computer.

I have AOL 9 SE and it works fine with XP (SP-1 and SP-2). Before that I
had AOL 9 (1st edition) with XP (1st edition and SP-1). I think that I also
had AOL 8 and XP (1st edition) on a previous computer.

Suggestion: Re-install AOL 9 from a CD (free from AOL, CompUSA, etc).
Install to a separate deirectory. AOL allows any number of parallel
installations of different (or same) versions of its software. When faced
with a couple of choices, be sure to indicate that (1) you are a current AOL
member, (2) you wish to upgrade. These two choices should automatically
transfer personal settings, address book, filing cabinet, etc. AOL should
create a new icon on the desktop, among other places. Verify that the path
is to the new installation. For example, if the old installation was
"America Online 9.0" the new one is probably "America Online 9.0a".

Now try the new AOL.

But, if the installer can not find an old AOL, then something is very
wrong/corrupt. In such a case try a clean installation, but still remeber
to say that you are a current AOL member. This is the mode I used to
transfer my account to a new PC about a year ago. The AOL installer copied
my address book from the web (AOL server) down to my PC. However, it did
not copy my filing cabinet. That I had to transfer manually.

Good luck.
