Anyone tried XP SP2 post RC2 build 2162 ??

C

CZ

How does it work compared to RC2?

root:

Build 2162 is not for the general public.

Use with caution, as it pirated.

Build 2149 is the last XP SP2 RC2 for the general public.

Sorry, but since it isn't a public release, we can't talk about it.

If you're on the tech beta, you can check those newsgroups for discussions.

Build 2162 is not pirated and there is no NDA. With that said, all of the
SP2 builds have been basically the same since beta 2 in my opinion. I've not
had any serious problems except w/ IIS on an early beta but its fixed.

As Terri has already said, Build 2162 is not a public release and was not
made available to the public. Those using it are under NDA and not at
liberty to discuss it.

If people who are not a part of the technical beta have found it for
download it is pirated.

That's all fine and dandy but another poster suggested otherwise. The fact
is that it was widely announced on the web and is widely available for
download. So for those availing themselves of 2162 then I'd like to hear
from them. If you have nothing to contribute to this thread then please
don't.

Since this is a public group, "we" can talk about anything "we" want.

And who do you mean by "we"?

If you want to download a beta service pack from CrazyJimmy's FTP server, be
my guest, but don't complain when it doesn't work right. Just wait for the
final release... and download it from Microsoft.

"We" would refer to those who are legally obligated not to talk about it due
to a non-disclosure agreement.

Those not bound by an NDA are welcome to talk about whatever they want.

Anyone with legal access to this build is constrained from talking about it
in public forums. If you downloaded it from a public site or otherwise
obtained it without Microsoft's consent, then you are using pirated,
possibly contaminated software.

So you must be refering to Terri and yourself. For the rest of us "we"s,
fill your boots.

I'm just saying that, since anything post RC2 has not been made public by
Microsoft, the only people who have a 100%-non-tampered-with build can't
talk about it.

I'm sure there are "leaked" copies of post RC2 builds out there, but it's
possible that they've been tampered with, so they may not necessarily show
the stability of a "clean" build.

If anyone tells you what they think of a post RC2 build, just take what they
say with a grain of salt. That's all.

I don't know about the rest of you but I am on the beta and I didn't sign
any non-disclosure agreements to get there. I'm not allowed to benchmark it
or redistribute it, but I'm not prohibited from talking about it.

It has never been the policy of this newsgroup to muzzle talk about
unreleased software. I don't see what y'all think the big deal is. We've
been talking about Lonestar for months. That's not released or supported.
None of the SP2 builds are. Public or not. Getting on the beta was as easy
as sending an email. This isn't some top secret project that we're not at
liberty to discuss. Geez.

Josh;
Are you confusing the Beta with the Technical Preview?
It sure sounds like it.
They are two different programs with different objectives.

C

Chris H.

If you were on the technical beta, Josh, then you would know and be active
in the appropriate private, technical newsgroups. If you're on the public
preview version, that is public knowledge and you can talk about what you
have in the public preview newsgroups. As for Longhorn, that has been
released to the public via PDC and WinHEC, as well as available for download
to MSDN subscribers, but is alpha form only. When it reaches beta stage,
those participating in the technical beta will do so with NDAs wrapped into
the participation.
