Windows XP SP2 RC2

Hi, my pc was left alone for a few days so when i came back there were a few
updates i needed to do. One being was Windows XP SP2. Already i had the RC2
version, without thinking i went on not uninstalling the Windows XP SP2 RC2
version. Now i am afraid it might be wasting space. I am unsure of whether
this would be under add/remove programs now. But if you could give me any
suggestions. I am installing SP2 pack now, so it might overwrite the SP2 RC2
version but i am unsure. I have a small HD i dont want to be wasting
unnnessary space. Spread some light on me. Cheers (Y)

Windows XP was not engineered for "small hard drives". Purchase a
large hard drive and stop fighting the OS. Let it work for you
instead.

There's two areas to consider - 1. files actually being used by the OS and
2. Files backed up in case you want to uninstall the service pack.

Shouldn't be any significant difference is space used by files in use.

On mine there is just 1 $NTServicePackUninstall$ in the Windows directory
[but I installed SP2 over WinXP]. I would guess not, but you could check to
see if there is a uninstall file for both RC2 and for the released SP2. If
so, you could delete the one for RC2.

If you run SP2 from a system that has the RC2 already, it will update
that without wasting more space. Once it has settled though you can
make a new restore point then go to
Start - All Programs - Accessories - System Tools - Disk Cleanup
and use the button in More Options to delete all but that most recent
point. And from C: \Windows delete the hidden folder
$NTServicePackUninstall of files that would be needed if you were to
uninstall it. Also on a NTFS drive you can save some space by
r-clicking C:\Windows\ServicePackFiles, taking Properties, clicking
Advanced and 'compress the folder' and its contents
