I've trying to reinstall windows on a friends PC, it reads the windows CD
but keeps saying there is a problem with the registry. So I boot from the
windows CD, reinstall or repair - same thing.

Put a boot disk in, it cant see the C drive (so I can format it)

Anyone any ideas? Serious if possible!!!

It could also be that the EIDE or SATA cables got loose. Unpin and
re-pin at drive interface and also at motherboard. Check power supply
connection to drive.

Are the drives IDE, SATA, SCSI, or ?
If they're other than IDE, the BIOS may list/enable them as 'SCSI'.
Also, your OS may require SATA or SCSI drivers to be installed on setup.

Its a SATA drive, so I have to load the driver before I can use it.

Now finding the driver....

Once again thanks, help appreciated.

I had a lot of problems loading XP Pro from my SATA Lite-On DVD/RW drive. I
have the identical model only in IDE that I finally tried and it installed
fine. Once XP was installed the SATA drive worked just fine and I can boot
to it and everything. It just gave me errors at the same point during the
initial install. I had loaded all the drivers using the F6 option when asked
and everything. It just wouldn't work.

Its the HDD thats SATA, so if I'm trying to install windows, it just falls
over, unless I have the drivers.

I've been on the hitachi website and the drives not listed!

Do manufactures never think about the poor sods who have to try and install
these at home!!

You don't need drivers from Hitachi. You need drivers from the
motherboard maker for the SATA controller.

You know, if you would post in context, your peers might be able to
tell whether your reply has anything to do with what you are replying
to. Yes, of course you know.

An obsessed troll.

You misspelled "my mother is a joke".

Why would you even suggest that?

Maybe, maybe not.

You misspelled "I'm so dull, I have to use the oldest put down known
to man".
Do you think you gents can get past your pissing contest? I don't mind
topic drift in a thread. It's something that just happens. But this
sort of thing just generates heat but little light.

For example what should the O.P. do if his Mobo manufacturer. doesn't
have the drivers he needs. Is there perhaps a clearing house for SATA
and SCSI drivers? I'm sure one of you smart guys knows the answer to
that one. ;-)

chipset manufacturer...but it is very unlikely that the mobo manu. won't have such an
important driver......and it ain't a pissing contest until Johnny Doh! opens his
mouth....then its target practice.

If I were you, I would address that directly to the obviously obsessed
troll (JAD). You might notice he has a parody of my e-mail address in
his author identification. Still, I'm going to criticize the obsessed
troll when he's wrong. You just have to live with peer review,
especially when you are so careless and half the time don't even read
the posts you are replying to.

To solve your problem, all you have to do is press the Ignore
Subthread key. It's a wonderful all-in-one filter for USENET that even
comes with free newsreaders like XNews.

Please begin abbreviating OOT(J) repetition is boring

And its no 'parody', its your obsession / profession
You know damn well that's why you post headers, to support your webpage, you know the one
that continues to be described by all your admirers, BTW have you moved yet?
