Antivrus Software Not Compatible With Windows Mail

Please confrim for me that if a McAfee is uninstalled and Avast is installed
you should still disable all email scanning functions. If an attachment is
opened with a virus does some other program protect my computer? Which one in
Vista Home Premium Edition?

Also is Windows Live OneCare compatible with Vista Windows Mail? Should its
email scanning also be turned of?

Thanks for your help. I am not very computer savy!

First, read http://www.oehelp.com/OETips.aspx#3 .

Email protection comes from what is called the real-time protection
that every antivirus has. Anytime a file (including email) is opened or
saved, the antivirus checks it. Additional scanning by the antivirus of
emails that are in transit is not only redundant but it can interfere with
the proper operation of the email program.

As far as we know Windows Live OneCare is compatible. I don't think
it has a setting for email scanning.

A separate firewall is not needed since the Windows Firewall is quite
adequate.
