AntiSpyware Threat Removal

Gentlemen/Ladies:
Recently installed latest beta version of MS AntiSpyware, and ran 3 scans at
different times. Each scan revealed 1spyware threat detected, that being
Virtumundo.C , with 15 signature noted. Each time I went through the process
for complete removal, and watched as the program announced that the treat had
been "treated." However, when I rebooted each time, and then opened the
Antispyware tool again, I see that it says :1 spyware threat "quarantined," 0
deleted, and 0 ignored?" (also, my Norton Antivirus alert displays with two
windows indicating that the Trojan.Vundo virus has been detected," and
another window appears that says "the file could not be removed.") Is there
a reason that the Antispyware Removal tool cannot completely remove the
threat, rather than quarantine only,. . .? and "quarantine" action
apparently is not keeping the virus from being detected by Norton each time
as still on my computer? I am running windows XP, and have gone through all
of the security procedures to allow "total removal" of this file. Bottom
line is that expectations when loading AntiSpyware was that, upon electing to
remove the virus, removal would take place, and not "quarantine?." I
desparately need to completely remove this virus, which is seriously
impacting system performance. Please advise. Thank you. DryHeat

Hello GPB

Please try this solutions provided by Jim Byrd

Symantec has two security responses:
http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/adware.virtumonde.html

http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/trojan.vundo.html

The second of these referenced Symantec pages contains links to a dedicated
removal tool that you might want to try. Run it from Safe mode or a 'Clean
Boot' . If that doesn't work, you'll probably need some help from one of the
HiJackThis forums.

GPB,

Have you tried booting inSafe Mode, running MS Spyware and then deleting the
infection? If this doesnt work download SpyBot for free and run this as well.
