spyware unable to remove threat

John

I have installed the antispyware beta version, and I must
admit I was very impressed by it, I tried a few before
and none been as effective until yesterday, I have set
the software to automatically update, and do a check
every night, the result showed 2 threats as follows:-
1 Possible browser Hijack (Internet explorer Start
Page:about:blank) threat level is High
2 SearchAssitant(spyware) threat level is severe

On running the scan, the antispyware identify the
threats, it recommend to remove it and, when you
continue, the antispyware do indicate that the threats
have been removed, but in realty the spyware threats are
still present, and I keep geting all sorts of pupups, and
furthermore I receive an unkown software exception error
as well.

any suggestion and help is welcome.

Best recommendation then would be to restart in safe mode and do a deep
scan. On the Scan Page choose Scan Options > Full System Scan. Do this at
least two times until detects something. Also, before you restart in safe
mode, disable System Restore, some trojans and spyware programs are likely
to restore themselves with system snap shots:

Right click My Computer > Properties > System Restore, check the "Disable
System Restore" check box and restart in safe mode.

Restart in safe mode instructions:

I don't know how comfortable or knowledgeable you are
with editing your registry, but there is probably a good
chance that spyware/adware is re-installing, or re-
calling itself: under RegEdit, take a look at HKEY Local
Machine, Software, Microsoft, Windows, Current Version,
Run and Run Once and see if some strange processes are
starting. Look them up if you are unsure what they are.
Do the same under HKEY Current User and see is anything
is there. Get some advice if you find anything strange.

A few items to try...

1) Please submit a suspected spyware report to us (tools->suspected spyware
report)
2) You can look in system explorers in advanced tools to see what may be
going on without playing in the registry.
